Cookware:
Creating the perfect collection

Cooking, searing, simmering, grilling, heating, braising, broiling, steaming...the right cookware is vital for all types of cooking, whether you're making appetizers, main courses, or desserts. So how do you create the perfect cookware collection?

The main types of cookware

Whether you're making simple everyday recipes or elaborate meals for guests, your kitchen has to be stocked with all the right cookware! Sitram offers a full selection of cookware, including frying pans or skillets and woks, saucepans and pots, cast iron Dutch ovens, pressure cookers, slow cookers, couscous pots, and steamers.

Frying pans

also called skillets, are go-to cookware for all your everyday meals. They can be used to prepare almost any type of recipe and food, including eggs, meat, fish, and vegetables.

At Sitram, we offer a variety of frying pans that are guaranteed PFOA-free. Our frying pans come coated or uncoated and in several different materials and sizes to meet the cooking needs of all consumers.

Some are designed for making specific dishes, such as our grill pans, crepe pans, sauté pans, and woks.

Pots and saucepans

Thanks to their versatility, saucepans are also essential cookware for every kitchen. Made with high, straight edges, saucepans are perfect for cooking foods in water or stock (pasta, vegetables, rice, etc.), preparing recipes in a double boiler, and making sauces and coulis. If you wish to cook larger quantities, then you'll definitely also need a pot. Pots are made with two handles for easy carrying and are often used to cook pasta.

Sitram offers a large selection of saucepans and pots. Available in several sizes and materials, this cookware makes it easy to cook all your favorite recipes.

Dutch ovens

Dutch ovens are becoming more and more popular as a means of stewing, simmering, and braising foods. They're not only perfect for slowly cooking your favorite meals, but also some of our most functional and beautiful cookware. Dutch ovens can be used as centerpieces on your table to keep food warm and add a touch of authenticity to your dining experience.

Sitram offers a large selection of cast iron Dutch ovens in a variety of shapes and sizes. Our enameled cast iron Dutch ovens are especially durable and ideal for making large quantities of your favorite foods. Some of our Dutch ovens also come with ridged inner lids to provide for continuous self-basting during cooking.

Pressure cookers

Known for their lightning-quick cooking speed, pressure cookers make for the perfect addition to your cookware collection. Pressure cookers use pressurized steam to reduce the cooking times (3 or 4 times faster) of certain foods that take much longer to cook in other cookware. This versatile cookware is ideal for preparing all kinds of recipes, including steamed vegetables, simmered dishes, and even desserts!

Sitram has been specializing in pressure cookers since 1963 and offers a large selection of this cookware.

Made of extremely thick stainless steel, our pressure cookers come in a variety of sizes and are designed with secure closing systems.

See our Tips section for more information on choosing and using your Sitram pressure cooker.

Specialty cookware

Sitram also offers a variety of specialty cookware to add to your collection. Less common but just as easy to use, this cookware allows you to prepare all kinds of special recipes.

Slow cookers steam slowly and gently and preserve the vitamins and nutrients in food. Couscous pots are designed with several levels and make it possible to cook large quantities of foods for when you have groups of friends or family over for dinner. Steamers are perfect for making healthy, steamed foods. And with a "rondeau," you can sweat foods, steam vegetables, and make candied chestnuts. Finally, a stock pot lets you cook extremely large quantities of food (for up to 50 people!).

How to choose your cookware

Before creating the perfect cookware collection, there are a few things you need to consider. How do you choose the right size? Which materials are best for your needs? What are the advantages of coatings? Discover all our tips for choosing your cookware here.

Which size?

The first thing to consider is the size of your household. If you live alone or with a partner, you probably won't need huge pots and saucepans. On the other hand, large families will have to invest in several big pieces of cookware to meet their daily needs.

The choice of size depends on the number of people you cook for on a daily basis, as well as those times when you entertain guests. For a family of 2 to 3, opt for a 1.5 to 2-liter saucepan for everyday meals and a large pot for dinner parties with pasta. The choice of size therefore also depends on the number of guests you entertain. Consider investing in several different-sized pans to be prepared for any situation. Here's another tip: a 4.5-liter Dutch oven is perfect for 4 people.

Which materials?

Cookware is made of several different materials to cater to the needs and preferences of all types of cooks. When it comes to materials, consider the following:

- The primary material of the cookware: the first thing to consider is the material from which the frying pan, saucepan, Dutch oven, or pressure cooker was molded (stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, steel, etc.). Each material has its pros and cons (heat resistance, performance, durability, handling, ease of care and use, etc.). For more information, feel free to check out our Materials Guide.

- The coating of the cookware: while some cookware is left "unfinished" (e.g., 100% stainless steel frying pans), other cookware is sold with an inner coating (e.g., aluminum cookware). These non-stick coatings make saucepans and frying pans easier to clean and use. At Sitram, all our coatings are guaranteed PFOA-free and safe for your health. Visit our Tips section for more information on the coatings used on our cookware.

Check the compatibility of your cookware

Before purchasing any cookware, you must also make sure it can be used on your cooktops. Depending on its primary material, some cookware may not be compatible with certain types of hobs. At Sitram, nearly all our products can be used on all types of cooktops (gas, electric, vitroceramic, halogen, induction). However, you should always check the symbols on the packaging of our products to be sure.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some of our cookware is oven-safe for even greater versatility and convenience. Our lines with removable handles can be used in the oven (the handle is used to insert and remove the cookware). Once again, always check the symbols on the packaging of the product before using the cookware in the oven.

Fixed or removable handle?

Most cookware comes with a fixed handle. However, you can also choose from saucepans and frying pans with detachable handles.

At Sitram, we offer a selection of cookware with a one-of-a-kind removable handle that fits all our saucepans and frying pans. In addition to saving space in your cupboards, this practical handle makes it easier to clean and use your cookware in the oven. See our Use and Care Guide for more information on using your Sitram cookware.
